Announcing New Colonnade Society Director
In September, Mary Hormozdi, Director of the Maryland Fund for Excellence, announced Melissa Belsinger as the new Director of the Colonnade Society. Although new to the position, Melissa has been a Terp for six years working in University Marketing. Now Melissa recognizes Colonnade Society members for their support, encourages them to leverage employer matching gift dollars that doubles their gifts and invites all to join the fun and rewarding experience of giving to Maryland. Melissa also partners with a terrific team of volunteers who serve on the Colonnade Society Council. Together they connect alumni and friends to campus-wide giving opportunities that help advance Maryland to the nation’s top 10. One of Melissa’s goals is to personally meet with as many Colonnade Society members as possible and learn more about their Maryland interests. So look for Melissa at upcoming Colonnade Society events and always feel free to contact her to schedule a visit. You can reach Melissa any time at 301.405.4630 or via email at melissa@umd.edu.

Tom Wilkinson – Tracing His Terp Spirit
Colonnade Society Council Member, Tom Wilkinson (second from left), is one of 12 children—all Maryland graduates. After he and his siblings were all in school, his mother took her turn and received her degree from the university too. It’s no surprise that Tom has such a great connection with Maryland. As he says, “I have a long and loving relationship with the university.” Tom started off as a water boy for the football team when he was an elementary school student. He went on to become a Chancellor’s Scholar, receiving both his B.A. in art history and B.S. in architecture in 1985. After being actively involved in his mother’s battle with cancer, Tom decided to go to medical school coming back to College Park for his pre-med requirements before earning his M.D. from UMAB in 1995. Tom currently lives in St. Mary’s County where he shares a family practice with his wife. In keeping with his strong ties to the university, Tom is a Colonnade Society member who supports the Banneker/Key Scholarship, serves on the Colonnade Society Council and is helping to organize a 2008 reunion of Chancellor Scholar and Banneker/Key Scholarship recipients.

If you are interested in attending the reunion for Chancellor Scholar and Banneker/Key Scholarship recipients, in supporting scholarships at Maryland or if you come from a long line of Terps and want to share your story, contact Melissa Belsinger at 301.405.4630 or melissa@umd.edu. She looks forward to hearing from you!
