    “Colonnade at the White House”
    August 27, 2009

    A small group of Colonnade members representing every College at the University joined Brodie Remington and Danita Nias ’81; for dinner at the Old Ebbitt Grille followed by a private tour of the East Wing of the White House. The group was able to see many of the historic portraits and collections, and watched the East Room crystal chandeliers being cleaned!

    “Divine Nine Reunion to Benefit Emergency Tuition Assistance”
    May 2, 2000

    Led by Nicole Pollard ’91, Colonnade Council Member and AKA, representatives from each of the “Divine Nine” historically African`American fraternities and sororities hosted over 200 alumni members for a reunion in the David C. Driskell Center. The group came together to reunite, reminisce and to launch the Divine Nine Emergency Tuition Assistance Fund.     “Colonnade at the Zoo: How Maryland Helps Protect the World's Endangered Species.”
    June 7, 2009

    The University of Maryland's Colonnade Society and the College of Chemical and Life Sciences hosted Colonnade at the Zoo, June 7, 2009 at the Smithsonian's National Zoo. Family and friends enjoyed a BBQ lunch before setting off on a zoo scavenger hunt. They met Maryland faculty and students as well as a host of zoo creatures, as they learned how the university is partnering with the Smithsonian to help protect endangered species through conservation-related research and education.     “Truth and Lies of CSI; How Maryland Makes The World a Safer Place”
    February 7, 2009

    The Colonnade Society and the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences hosted an exclusive event for University of Maryland alumni and Colonnade Society members. Guest explored a "live" crime scene and experienced cutting-edge research firsthand alongside faculty and alumni experts, as they walked through the steps of solving a crime. Thomas P. Mauriello, adjunct professor, crime scene forensics expert, former police officer and creator of The Dollhouse Murders: A Forensic Expert Investigates 6 Little Crimes, provided guests unique insights into the gritty and imperfect world of crime solving.     “VIP Reception & Shirley Povich Symposium”
    November 12, 2008

    The Philip Merrill College of Journalism and the Colonnade Society hosted the third annual Shirley Povich Symposium, preceded by a VIP reception, which attracted more than 350 guests, at Cole Field House on Nov. 12, 2008. The main event drew more than 500 to witness sports figures and journalists Len Elmore ’78, Sage Steele, Scott Van Pelt, Michael Wilbon and Gary Williams '68 serve as panelists and Kevin Blackistone and Maury Povich as moderators for this year's symposium topic: Sports, Race and the Media.     “Campus Club 70th Anniversary Scholarship Tea”
    September 17, 2008

    The Colonnade Society and the Scholarship Campaign joined with the Campus Club to host an afternoon tea, celebrating their 70th anniversary as an organization and recognizing their Campus Club Scholarship Recipient. Campus Club members and guests were joined by Mrs. Mote and scholarship recipient Sheryl Carbone ’09. Dr. Bonnie Thornton Dill, Professor and Chair of the Women's Studies Department, presented the keynote lecture on the state of women's affairs at the University of Maryland.

    “Start Your Engines”
    April 6, 2008

    The Colonnade Society and the A. James Clark School of Engineering celebrated an afternoon event highlighting the Maryland student organization that builds Formula and Baja race cars for Society of Automotive Engineers competitions. Racing demonstrations and special guests covered the mechanics of racing and inspired the race fan in each of us.

    “The Tradition Continues”
    Women's Basketball Pre-Game Reception
    January 20, 2008

    More than 600 Colonnade Society and Terrapin Club members, rallied for Maryland's women's basketball team before they took on Georgia Tech on January 20, 2008. Guests enjoyed game fare, refreshments and plenty of Terrapin spirit before cheering the Terps to victory over Georgia Tech 99-95.

    “Raise Your Glass to Maryland Wine!”
    Tasting Event
    October 2, 2007

    The Colonnade Society and College of Agriculture and Natural Resources hosted a wine tasting event on October 2, 2007 where Colonnade Society members and friends raised their glasses high as they mingled and enjoyed presentations by faculty experts on the science of growing grapes in Maryland and the health attributes of Maryland wine.

    Asian American Alumni Dinner
    September 26, 2007

    With the help of Colonnade Society Council member Tom Fong '83, the Colonnade Society hosted the Asian American community at Maryland with a celebration of Asian American alumni and leaders. Guests gathered for a festive cocktail hour followed by dinner and an enlightening program.

    Campus Club Afternoon Tea

    The Campus Club and the Colonnade Society hosted An Afternoon Tea on September 12, 2007 where guests enjoyed an array of teas and scrumptious desserts and a program that included remarks by the University of Maryland's First Lady, Patsy Mote, proud member of the Campus Club and advocate for student scholarships.

    Strike Up the Band!
    Pre-concert Reception and UM Bands “Pops” Concert
    May 5, 2007

    Colonnade Society members and their families enjoyed the UM Band “Pops” concert. This annual crowd-pleaser celebrated its 32nd year and featured the UM Concert and Community bands and performances by top student soloists. Prior to the concert, Colonnade Society members, alumni and friends mingled at a private reception. Attendees were acknowledged as Colonnade Society members for their support and shared examples of how their gifts positively and powerfully impact the university.

    The Norman and Florence Brody Public Policy Forum: Let's Talk
    January 21, 2007

    The Colonnade Society and School of Public Policy presented The Norman and Florence Brody Public Policy Forum hosted by Doug Besharov. Guests enjoyed an afternoon with linguistics expert and acclaimed author Deborah Tannen, who discussed communication between mothers and daughters and men and women—all based on her best-selling books, You're Wearing THAT? and You Just Don't Understand.

    Women's Basketball Pre-Game Reception
    January 19, 2007

    More than 700 Colonnade Society and Terrapin Club members rallied for Maryland's 2006 NCAA Championship women's basketball team before they took on the Virginia Cavaliers on January 19, 2007 at the Comcast Center. President Mote, Coach Frese and other university dignitaries thanked Colonnade Society members for their generous support of Maryland. Guests enjoyed hearty food, refreshments and plenty of Terrapin spirit before cheering the Terps to victory over Virginia 95-68.

    Shirley Povich Symposium*
    November 9, 2006

    The Colonnade Society and the Philip Merrill College of Journalism gathered for a lively roundtable discussion that included hearty hors d’oeuvres, beer/wine and a signature cocktail. Guests also took advangtage of the opportunity to mingle and meet faculty and staff from the College of Journalism.

    Colonnade Society First Annual Kickoff Reception
    September 2, 2006

    More than 400 Colonnade Society members attended the first anual Kickoff Reception, prior to the Terps’ first home football game on September 2, 2006. The event hailed the beginning of a new academic year, celebrated society members’ past generosity and encouraged all to participate in Maryland’s future success.

    Tea and Opera
    April 23, 2006

    Colonnade Society members enjoyed an afternoon tea followed by a UM School of Music performance of Il Matrimonio Segreto (The Secret Marriage) by Domenico Cimarosa; Ryan Brown, conductor; Nick Olcott, director; Leon Major, artistic director, at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.

    Colonnade Society and College of Agriculture Wine Tasting
    March 22, 2006

    Colonnade Society members, Agriculture Alumni and special guests enjoyed an interactive evening of wine appreciation March 22 at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center. Maryland professor Joseph A. Fiola, a veteran viticulturist, enologist and small fruit specialist led the lively crowd of 120 through the sensing and appreciation of six wines produced through the University’s Western Maryland Research and Education Center. Dean Wei and Dr. Mickey Parish, Chair of the Nutrition and Food Sciences Department, lent their expertise to the program.

    November 29, 2005

    The Colonnade Society and the Philip Merrill College of Journalism came together November 29, 2005 for an exclusive networking event. Special guest, Pulitzer Prize winner and UM Professor Haynes Johnson discussed his new book, The Age of Anxiety: McCarthyism to Terrorism. Attendees entered a drawing for personalized signed copies of Prof. Johnson’s new book and two Maryland Men’s Basketball Tickets.

    2005 Colonnade Brunch

    Over 550 members of the Colonnade Society joined President C. D. Mote, Jr. for our 4th Annual Homecoming Brunch on Saturday, October 1. Alumni, family and friends gathered under the “big tent” on Ludwig Field prior to the homecoming football game.
